The international convention of the Kyoto Breast Cancer Consensus (KBCC) Conference 2018 will be held in conjunction with the 26th Japanese Breast Cancer Society meeting in Kyoto, May 16th‒19th of 2018. The major results of the last 2016 international convention of KBCCC were published in The Lancet Oncology, Volume 17, No. 10, e442–e451, October 2016, and Volume 17, No. 10, e430–e441, October 2016. We had a dynamic discussion about the multidisciplinary treatments and local management of primary breast cancer.
In 2018, we will discuss several major topics as follows.
- Local treatment of multiple ipsilatera l tumors
- Contralateral prophylactic mastectomy for unilateral breast cancer
- Sentinel node biopsy for very early stage cancer, and after neoadjuvant therapy
- Management of DCIS
- Radiation therapy for regional lymph nodes
- Neoadjuvant and adjuvant systemic therapy
Furthermore, we will touch upon the issues of breast cancer screening for women having high risk of breast cancer.
AI for primary breast cancer management will also be discussed.
During May, the trees in the city of Kyoto look beautiful with fresh green growth. In the pleasant breeze, you may want to take a stroll around many of the historical architectures standing before green hills and reflected in clear water ponds and rivers.
May 15 is the day of the Aoi Matsuri or Hollyhock Festival, which began more than 14 centuries ago even before Kyoto became the capital. A procession of over 500 people elegantly clad in traditional Heian period apparel starts from the Kyoto Imperial Palace and works its way towards the Shimogamo‒jinja Shrine and finally to the Kamigamo‒jinja Shrine.
